The News-Sentinel sports staff will feature a different verbally committed player for the four NCAA Division I football programs (Ball State, Indiana , Notre Dame and Purdue) in Indiana leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 5.
Here is today's Purdue featured commit:
Position: Offensive tackle
Junior College School: Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona
Weight: 330 pounds
Commitment date: February 1, 2014
Other scholarship offers: North Texas, South Florida, Western Kentucky.
Ranking: Rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com; rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com.
Purdue depth chart at position: Redshirt senior Jack DeBoef, redshirt junior Michael Rouse, redshirt sophomore J.J. Prince.
Scouting report: Coach Darrell Hazell knows he has to fix the problems along his offensive line sooner rather than later if Purdue is going to begin winning more games, so he went the junior college route to land Clements. Between his burly frame and skill set, Clements should immediately step into the two-deep conversation along the offensive front. A massive man, if Clements can showcase technique to go along with his size, he really could be a roadblock for defensive players attempting to get into the backfield to disrupt passing and running plays. While his offer list was not extensive, the assets Clements brings as someone who is ready to contribute immediately is the most important thing as Purdue attempts to start the long trek back to respectability.
