Broadway theaters will dim their marquee lights Wednesday night in memory of Philip Seymour Hoffman, the movie and theater star who earned three Tony Award nominations.
The Broadway League said Monday the lights will be dimmed for one minute starting at 7:45 p.m.
Hoffman was a longtime supporter of the off-Broadway Labyrinth Theatre Company, where he served as co-artistic director.
A representative for Arcade Fire says that the Grammy Award-winning indie rock band will perform in Haiti this month.
Scott Rodger of Quest Management confirmed in an email that the Canadian band will play Feb. 21 as part of the country’s Carnival celebrations in the coastal town of Jacmel. The event generally features only local groups.
Arcade Fire’s latest album, “Reflektor,” draws on Haitian musical traditions. It was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of last year.
The Newport Folk Festival says gospel singer Mavis Staples will perform in this year’s lineup.
Staples is the first act to be announced for the 2014 festival, which will be held from July 25 to 27. The festival says special guests will honor her birthday and “75 Years of Mavis” throughout the weekend.
Other musical acts will be announced later.
