Local sports briefs: Southorn returns to Komets


The Fort Wayne Komets announced Thursday the return of defenseman Jordon Southorn from Hamilton of the American Hockey League. Southorn did not dress in two games with Hamilton.

The Komets also signed rookie defenseman Matthew Maione, who recently completed four seasons with the University of Prince Edward Island in the Atlantic University Sport conference of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport. He scored 12 points in 12 games this season.

Turnstone hosting power soccer tournament

Power soccer teams from Illinois, Indiana and New York will meet at Turnstone for late-season tournament this weekend. Competition heats up as the teams battle for rankings before the national tournament in June. The Premier Classic begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and continues until 6 p.m. On Sunday, games also begin at 9 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. Teams competing include the No. 1-ranked Circle City Rollers, No. 4 Turnstone Flyers, No. 5 CNY United, No. 13 Turnstone Furious Flyers and No. 17 GLASA Chicago. Admission is free.
