IPFW women lose in first round of WBI

CHICAGO – A tough shooting night for the IPFW women's basketball team sent them home early from the Women's Basketball Invitational.

The University of Illinois-Chicago beat the Mastodons 84-71 on Wednesday at the UIC Pavilion.

IPFW (15-15) hit only 23 of 70 shots (32.9 percent), including 9 of 40 from three-point range.

Amanda Hyde led IPFW with 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Former South Side High School standout Ariana Simmons posted a double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. No other IPFW player scored in double figures.

Ruvanna Campbell led UIC (23-9) with 23 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists. Rachel Story scored 19, Katie Hannemann 17 and Terri Bender 14.
