Move over Betty White. There's a new nonagenarian in town and her name is Doris Day. Don't worry, Betty, she likes animals, too!

Day, who turns 90 on Thursday, is one of the most popular singers to ever record music and one of the most popular actresses to ever grace the silver screen and TV. She danced, too, until a car-train accident permanently ended those dreams when she was a teen. Without that accident, no one would have heard “Secret Love” or her signature song, “Que Sera Sera.” They also would not have seen her star in the film, “Calamity Jane,” her personal favorite. “The Doris Day Show” ran five years on CBS. She could do it all, and she did.

She led a wholesome life, that is, after she quit smoking in 1951. She hated it when anyone swore and often made business associates put money in a swear jar for their offenses. She has spent decades fighting animal abuse, a cause she endeared to her heart after observing abuse of the animal extras in “The Man Who Knew Too Much.”

Her dedication to stopping animal abuse will be at the forefront when she celebrates her 90th birthday. The Doris Day Animal Foundation will hold a tribute dinner and fundraiser Friday at The Cypress Inn in Carmel, Calif.
