Concordia Theological Seminary dean suffers brain aneurysm during Australia visit

The Rev. Dr. Timothy Quill, dean of International Studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, is recovering in an Australia hospital after surgery for a brain aneurysm, according to the school.

Quill, who is also director of theological education for the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod Office of International Mission, fell ill on Wednesday in Adelaide, Australia. Quill was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where an immediate craniotomy to relieve pressure was followed within 24 hours by surgery to repair the aneurysm. Quill remains in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the school.

Quill was traveling with Darin Storkson, LCMS South Asia and Oceania regional director, to visit Australian Lutheran College in Adelaide, before he was scheduled to visit two seminaries in Papua New Guinea.

Storkson, along with the Rev. Neville Otto, secretary and mission director for the Lutheran Church of Australia, found Quill unresponsive Wednesday before Lenten Vespers and called an ambulance.

Doctors are currently establishing a timeline for Quill's convalescence and his return to the United States, according to the seminary.
