Fire destroys vacant arts school

An act of arson destroyed the front office of the former White’s School of the Arts Sunday afternoon, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

The building, 2700 E. Maple Grove Ave., is vacant, said Battalion Chief Brian Meeks.

When firefighters arrived on the scene at 3:23 p.m. flames were visible at the front of the building, he said. The blaze was quickly brought under control, Meeks added.

There were no injuries.

The building sustained heavy fire damage, with moderate smoke and water damage, according to a statement released by the department.

The department is asking anyone who observed suspicious activity or who may have information about the fire to call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP, he said.
