The last two men's national soccer champions are set to play Saturday when Notre Dame faces Indiana as part of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival.
Notre Dame won the title last December, edging Maryland 2-1. IU won it in 2012.
It's the second time national champions have played in Fort Wayne. Last August, IU played North Carolina, the 2011 champ.
The game will be held at the Fort Wayne Sport Club on Ardmore Road. Parking is available there and at Elmhurst High School, with free shuttles to the game.
Advance tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for those high school age and younger, and are available at Wallgreens, Connelly's Do it Best locations and 800 Degrees restaurant. Tickets are $10 and $7 at the game.
The festival includes an annual spring game that rotates between the Sport Club and Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne.
“Each year the best of the best continue to view the festival as the supreme place to complete against the finest teams in the country,” festival organizer Terry Stefankiewicz said in a release. “They know they can count on being paired with another great team and northeast Indiana always creates an electric atmosphere,”
Added festival operations leader Mike Roeth: “This may be unprecedented in NCAA sports. Where the prior champions play against each other in the months before the next official season begins, in back to back years. It truly is very exciting.”
