County Commissioners sign Lafayette Center Road pact

The Allen County Commissioners Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with their counterparts in Huntington County that will allow work to begin on the $30 million reconstruction of Lafayette Center Road from the General Motors plant to Roanoke.

The money was pledged by the Indiana General Assembly this year and, after land acquisition, engineering and other preparations are complete, bids could be opened by the end of 2015, with construction to start the following year.

The Legislature this year also provided funding to improve U.S. 30 between Allen and Kosciusko counties, perhaps by elevating busy intersections or building an entirely new highway. The commissioners will work with other counties on that project as well.
