Cedar Point amusement park opens for the season Saturday May 10 with several new things to see and do this summer.

The park is located along the shore of Lake Erie near Sandusky, Ohio, about 2 1/2 hours northeast of Fort Wayne.

Cedar Point released this list of new things to see and do:

Pipe Scream: Described as combining the best fun of a roller coaster and a flat ride, Pipe Scream will spin riders as they move along 302 feet of track and reach 43 feet in height and a speed of up to 40 mph.

Lake Erie Eagles: Riders sit in one of eight carriages hanging from arms more than 28 feet above the ground. As the ride begins to turn, the carriages will swing out and simulate the feeling of flying. A paddle on each carriage lets riders change their trip “from mild to wild!”

Chickie's and Pete's: Known for its popular Crabfries, the restaurant also will offer its signature Philly Cheese Steaks and Lisa's Blonde Lobster Pie. Chickie's and Pete's recently was named as one of the “10 Best Sports Bars” in the country by USA Today.

Starbucks: Fans of the coffeehouse now won't have to leave the park to get their morning brew. A full-service Starbucks has opened in the space formerly housing Donut Time. Along with beverages, you also can pick up fresh baked goods.

Camp Snoopy improvements: The Camp Snoopy area celebrates its 15th year at Cedar Point this summer by adding Woodstock's Airmail (formerly Frog Hopper) and Wilderness Run (formerly Jr. Gemini). The two kiddie ride favorites have been moved there from their previous locations.

Lighthouse Point Cabins: Cedar Point will add and open 52 new deluxe cabins this summer on Lighthouse Point. Each cabin can accommodate up to 10 people and includes two full bathrooms, four flat panel televisions, a dorm-size refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, outdoor charcoal grill and picnic table.

The cabins will be available beginning May 23. Reservations are being accepted now.

Luminosity: Ignite the Night: This summer's version of the high-energy show features an all-new lineup of music, dancing and dazzling pyrotechnics. “Luminosity” is performed nightly (except Tuesdays) from May 30 through Aug. 17.

SlingShot: The new thrill ride this year, SlingShot puts riders in an open-air, two-person capsule and then launches them nearly 360 feet in the air at speeds of as much as 62 mph. The ride, which is scheduled to open in June, will be located near the Gemini roller coaster and will require an extra charge to ride.

Other changes

Other new food options this summer will include Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon in Challenge Park and new Coca-Cola Freestyle and Yogurt Plus locations along the Gemini Midway.

Visitors can enjoy several new live shows including “Rockin' Country” in the Red Garter Saloon, “Lusty Lil's Revue” in the Palace Theatre and “Snoopy Unleashed” in the Good Time Theatre.

This weekend, visitors also will receive a free Cedar Point VIP jacket as they exit the main entrance, while supplies last.
