A family conversation in a kitchen was violently interrupted Tuesday evening when bullets ripped through the windows.
Inside the home, an 18-year-old man was grazed in the back of the head and a baby escaped injury. Police at the scene said the victim was at a hospital in serious condition. His name was not released. The shooting was reported about 9 p.m.
A nearby resident who was outside the home at 1220 Francis St., just east of downtown, said he heard four shots and ran to the home. “By the time I made it, the son was screaming to get an ambulance,” said the man, who asked not to be identified.
He said a woman and her sons, one of whom has a baby, live in the home.
He said he walked around the home and noticed all the windows at the rear of the house were shot. An alley runs along the north and west sides of the property.
Frustrated at the violence that night and another shooting Monday that left three teens injured, the man said he has had enough of the violence in Fort Wayne.
“This stuff’s got to stop,” he said. “It’s senseless.”
Another man at the scene, who declined to speak to The Journal Gazette, told police that family members were talking in the kitchen when someone shot into the home.
A third person at the scene said he saw a red car with a loud muffler and one headlight speed south from the home. Police interviewed several bystanders and searched the backyard of the home.
As they left and closed the front door behind them, a sign on it was visible: “Bless This House.”
