PBA rolls into city with two events

FORT WAYNE — The Professional Bowlers Association is returning to Fort Wayne with the PBA50 Tour, officials announced Thursday.

The Dick Weber Super Senior Classic will be held July 18-20, and the Pro Bowl West Classic will be held July 21-23.

Both competitions, which are being conducted back-to-back for the first time, will take place at Pro Bowl West on Goshen Road.

Admission for both is $8 per day. A $25 pass is available for admission to all days of both tournaments.

The first event is for bowlers 60 years or older, and the second is open to ages 50 and above.

Hall of Famers Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Pete Weber are among about 120 bowlers scheduled to appear.

Williams is first on the PBA’s all-time wins list with 47, while Weber is tied for third at 37.

Last year, Weber became the first person to twice pull off the PBA triple crown, when his second Tournament of Champions added to his two World Championships titles and five U.S. Opens.

Other Hall of Famers coming to town are Johnny Petraglia, an eight-time PBA50 Tour titlist, and Dale Eagle, a three-time PBA Tour champion.

They are scheduled to compete in both tournaments.

Eagle competed in the 2009 PBA Central/Midwest Region Bowling Gift.Com Senior Open held in Fort Wayne.

Match play for the Dick Weber Super Senior Classic is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. July 19.

Match play elimination rounds for the Pro Bowl West Classic, the eighth stop for the PBA50 Tour this season, will begin at 10 a.m. July 23.

Various cities around the state have hosted PBA Tour, Senior Tour and regional tournaments during the PBA’s 56-year history.
