Illinois St. graduate to help IU guard play

Illinois State team captain Nick Zeisloft will transfer to Indiana to complete his final two years of college eligibility, the Hoosiers announced Monday.

Zeisloft graduated from Illinois State with a degree in finance and can play immediately because NCAA rules allow for transferring graduate students to do so.

The same situation happened last year with Evan Gordon coming to the Hoosiers from Arizona State, although Gordon had only one season of eligibility remaining.

Zeisloft, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from La Grange, Illinois, considered Indiana in part because of his desire to enroll in the Kelley School of Business.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to play for Coach (Tom) Crean and the Indiana Hoosiers,” Zeisloft said in a statement released by the university. “IU’s tradition is like no other, and I am honored to have the opportunity to further my education in the Kelley School of Business.”

Crean noted that Zeisloft’s track record of shooting acumen, as well as the experiences of three years in a Division I program, could offer a nice boost.

“The addition of Nick allows us to spread and space the floor even more and play with more pace,” Crean said in a statement. “He brings a physical and mental toughness that has allowed him to play at a strong level and brings leadership and maturity to our program.

“We feel his best basketball days are ahead of him and his versatility and skills allow him to be very multi-dimensional for us. We feel he compliments our returners very well and will help in the development and growth process of our newcomers.”

Zeisloft averaged 6.9 points last season, but what caught the Hoosiers’ eye was the fact that he shot 35.5 percent on 3-pointers, making 60 of 169 attempts.

Zeisloft started 31 of the 59 games he played for the Redbirds. He redshirted the 2011-12 season.
