Election Board suggests law changes

The Allen County Election Board wants to update its voting technology, but will need state help to do it. Saying it would like to add more satellite voting locations as soon as the fall 2015 city election, the board Monday asked State Reps. Casey Cox, R-Fort Wayne, and Phil GiaQuinta, D-Fort Wayne, to consider legislation that would allow counties greater flexibility when using electronic poll books. Adding four early voting locations would require about 12 machines costing $15,000. The board would also like the ability to use pre-recorded telephone calls to notify voters when their voting locations change.

The board Monday also approved the language of a question on the November ballot that, if approved, would replace the three County Commissioners with a single executive and expand County Council from seven to nine members.
