Allen County's iMap Consortium has received a Special Achievement in GIS (geographic information system) Award at the Esri International User Conference. The award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work and innovative use of GIS technology. The iMap Consortium is a partnership between Allen County, the city of Fort Wayne, NIRCC, the Fort Wayne Airport Authority and the city of New Haven and provides a common GIS infrastructure to support local government processes such as permitting, asset management, 311 customer services and 911 emergency services, as well as providing GIS data and services to the general public.
Last year, the consortium secured a unique license agreement with Esri to provide a software platform that could span multiple local governments and agencies. Map products and other GIS services are shared outside of the consortium to support local schools, regional organizations and state government.
