FORT WAYNE — He said last week he was open to any and all options as a professional soccer player, now that his deal with Puebla of the Mexican League was done.

“My door is always open,” former South Side star DaMarcus Beasley said, fresh off his historic fourth World Cup appearance for the U.S. Men’s National Team. “I would literally play almost anywhere.”

Turns out “anywhere” is Houston.

The Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer announced on its website Wednesday that it had signed Beasley to a three-year deal as a designated player. Terms were not disclosed.

Beasley, 32, played all four games for the U.S. in his fourth World Cup. His 120 caps for the U.S. national team ranks fifth in the program’s history, and he’s tied for ninth in team history with 17 goals. His 13 assists is tied for eighth.

“I am excited and ready to start this new chapter in my career,” Beasley said on the Dynamo site. “I have heard great things from Brad (Davis) and Rico (Clark) about Houston, the team and the fans, and I’m excited to get to know them. I feel fit and ready to go and hope (head coach) Dom (Kinnear) will see my work ethic and desire to play at a high level.”

“DaMarcus has had a great career, as we saw at the World Cup,” Kinnear said. “To bring in a player of his quality is a big plus for the team.”

Beasley joins the Dynamo after three seasons with Puebla. He’s also played professionally with Hannover 96 in the German Bundesliga, Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premier League, Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League and PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Beasley’s previously played in the MLS for the Chicago Fire.
