I recently asked for reader opinions on the worst shows on television, and I've got to say, we have some very astute readers out there because, for the most part, I agree with everything they said.

For example ...

Lloyd from Louisiana sent me his 15 least favorites shows, many with comments, such as:

"McHale's Navy" and "Hogan's Heroes" — "There was nothing funny about WW II."

"F-Troop'' — "There was nothing funny about our treatment of Native Americans."

"Mayberry R.F.D" — "Sans Andy and Barney, it sucked."

"The Outer Limits" — "Silliest alien monsters ever."

Joan and Lee from Iowa write: "We are fed up with stupid TV shows, also. The producers must think everyone out here is dumb, and I guess some people are if they like watching ignorance and stupidity as entertainment." Their list of programs that are unwatchable for more than one episode include: "Wipe Out," "Two and a Half Men," "Jerry Springer," any daytime "Judge" show and "Reckless." They also panned shows that I have often criticized: "Celebrity Wife Swap" and the "Bachelor/Bachelorette" series.

I do have to disagree with their inclusion of "Modern Family" with those other shows as I actually find that to be quite funny, but, hey, ... their opinion is just as valid as mine.

A few people have chosen History Channel's "Swamp People" as by far the worst show on television, including David in Montana who describes it thusly: "The antics of a bunch of (words I can't really repeat here) slogging in mud."

I would also like to thank David for getting the theme song for his "Worst show of the '60s" stuck in my head for three days now: "A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse, of course. That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed."

Mike Marin is a cranky curmudgeon who, when he's not yelling at kids to get off his lawn, likes to complain about the sad state of popular culture, especially as seen through a TV screen.
