The TinCaps continued their Sunday struggles as they lost to Wisconsin 5-2 in front of 6,282 fans at Parkview Field on Vera Bradley Day.

The team donned Ziggy Zinnia Vera Bradley floral jerseys for the game.

Fort Wayne (44-60, 14-21 second half) is 3-11 on Sundays and 11-22 for day games.

Ronnie Richardson and Ryan Miller took advantage of Wisconsin’s two errors to score for the TinCaps.

In the third, Richardson was walked by starter Chad Thompson. Richardson stole second as Thompson committed an error on the pickoff attempt. Dustin Peterson hit a groundout to the pitcher and Richardson advanced to third, and with Franmil Reyes batting, Richardson scored from a wild pitch.

In the seventh, Miller was walked and advanced to second on Trea Turner’s groundout. Josh VanMeter then hit a fly to left field, but Wisconsin’s Michael Ratteree committed an error, allowing Miller to score and VanMeter to advance to third.

Turner was scheduled to rest for the first time since joining the TinCaps, but an injury to Luis Tejada in the third inning, forced him into action.

In the third, pitcher Ronald Herrera threw to Tejada at first on a Dustin DeMuth grounder and DeMuth collided with Tejada as the first baseman attempted to field the ball, jamming his arm.

Fernando Perez moved from second to first, VanMeter from shortstop to second and Turner came on at shortstop.

Perez has now played third, second and first in the last two games.

“That’s the way I was playing in the beginning of the season,” he said. “They move me around. I have no problem with that, it’s just as long as I’m in the lineup and I get a chance to play every day, I’m not going to complain.”

Wisconsin scored runs in five different innings to tie the three-game series, which ends today.

“I think they threw some good pitching at us,” TinCaps manager Michael Collins said. “Offense never got started, pitching was OK at times.

“We did a good job of limiting the damage. We gave up runs in five separate innings so that’s definitely something we want to rectify tomorrow.”

Herrera (5-6) pitched 4 2/3 innings for Fort Wayne, giving up seven hits and three earned runs.

Chad Thompson (1-0) gave up three hits and one earned run in five innings. He struck out six. Reliever Taylor Williams pitched the final four innings to earn his fourth save. He gave up an unearned run on three hits and struck out eight.

The Timber Rattlers (55-49, 19-16 second half) hit seven doubles and outhit the TinCaps 12-6. Jose Pena went 2 for 3 with a run and RBI, and Clint Coulter went 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead Wisconsin.

The TinCaps and Timber Rattlers finish the series at 7:05 p.m. today with RHP Jimmy Brasoban (1-4) starting on the mound.

Note: LHP Max Fried will have his elbow examined in San Diego this week. The Padres’ No. 2 prospect reported soreness after his July 21 start for the TinCaps.
