A male motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition Monday afternoon after his Suzuki collided with a Buick at a west-central intersection.

According to Fort Wayne Police spokesman Officer Michael Joyner, the motorcyclist was riding north on Van Buren Street, crossing over Jefferson Boulevard.

As he entered the intersection, a Buick sedan turning from southbound Van Buren Street onto Jefferson Boulevard turned into his path.

The impact of the crash sent the motorcyclist flying about 25 feet, where he landed on the northeast curb of the intersection.

He was not wearing a helmet and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Three passengers were in the car at the time of the crash – a woman driving the car, an adult male passenger and an infant in the back seat.

No injuries in that car were reported, but the driver was taken to a hospital for a blood screen to check for drugs or alcohol, in accordance with standard procedure, Joyner said.
