A gas leak Wednesday morning shut down a portion of Auburn Road as well as two medical offices, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates (OMSA) and Ear, Nose & Throat Associates (ENT), both on Dupont Circle Court.

As of about 10:30 a.m. the leak was fixed and the offices and roads were reopened.

ENT employees reported smelling natural gas shortly before 8 a.m. Construction crews working on Auburn Road had hit a gas line and notified NIPSCO, according to Fort Wayne Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Fleming. Fort Wayne Firefighters evacuated about 70 people from ENT and about 12 from OMSA as a precaution.

Ongoing metering at both buildings showed no elevated levels, but both remained closed as a precaution.

While the gas leak was being fixed the exit ramp from Interstate 469 to Auburn Road was closed, as well as Auburn Road from Dupont Circle Court to Wallen Road.
