A Warsaw man was seriously injured late Friday afternoon when the moped he was riding hit a guardrail in Kosciusko County.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department reported that deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched at about 5:15 p.m. to Indiana 25 south of County Road 250 South.

There they found Shannon L. Hursey, 38, in the roadway suffering from a severe head injury. Hursey was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

Investigators said their initial investigation determined that Hursey was southbound on Indiana 25 when his Yamaha moped, and for an unknown reason, struck a guardrail on the west side of the roadway. Hursey was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
