This week's Page Turner reader interview is with Ron Turpin, head of financial operations at Lincoln Financial Group.

"I recently finished 'The Coming Job War,' written by Jim Clifton. He talks about job creators, job builders. Every community is fighting to get new jobs, and this book contains tips on what we can do.

"He writes about power players coming together to strategize and how we can propose job creation. It is a quick read, recommended to me by a friend.

"It's a great book for anyone wanting to know what the future looks like. We are in competition and must have a community where people would want to live. To attract good jobs, it's important to have that community people want to live in. The Ash Building is an example of an active community. Younger people want culture — the fine arts — and the community must support those things. That's important.

"I also recently finished reading 'Toxic Charity,' by Robert Lupton. It asks if a lot of times we are really helping people. How do we do charity — are we really helping people or do we do it because it makes us feel good? Lupton writes about the '60s when the goal was to eliminate poverty. Did welfare really help people get out of poverty or did it perpetuate it?

"We must invest in job skill training. We should invest. Look at your goals, your options the food pantry, he recommends. It takes individuals and corporations working together in their desire, and each community has its own solution. There are no pat answers, he writes. But he helps you think: here are some things to consider, some suggestions. The book is very helpful and very readable.

"I do read fiction, too. Clive Cussler has written lots of books, and I enjoy reading his writing. I've read several of his novels. I think my favorite books of all times are the Sherlock Holmes novels, and I like watching the films on PBS, also."
