Kara Klinker has died from her injuries in a crash this weekend with a tour bus carrying the contemporary Christian band MercyMe.

The crash also claimed the lives of her 36-week fetus and two friends, Dario Boutte, 19; and Barbara Schmucker, 17, all of Fort Wayne.

Klinker, 18, died Tuesday at 2 p.m., Fort Wayne police announced Wednesday morning.

Police said earlier that Klinker was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier south on Lima Road just after 1 a.m. Saturday when she abruptly turned left onto Coliseum Boulevard West and directly into the path of the tour bus - colliding with the front end of the bus.

Klinker was taken to Parkview Hospital in critical condition, and her infant was declared stillborn shortly after she arrived, the Allen County Coroner's Office said.

The crash occurred just hours after the band performed during the first on-field concert at Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne.

MercyMe resumed its tour with shows this week and is scheduled to perform today at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.

No one from Texas-based MercyMe was seriously injured in the crash, although they were shaken and asked their fans to pray for the families of the victims.

MercyMe has recorded three No. 1 Christian singles since it formed in 1994. The band was headed to St. Louis for a show Saturday when the crash occurred. That concert was postponed and rescheduled for Sept. 5.

Klinker, of Fort Wayne, was a graduate of Northrop High School.
