Vince Robinson has resigned as the city of Fort Wayne's public information director, the city said Monday afternoon in a written statement.
His resignation has been accepted.
Mayor Tom Henry "thanks him for his service and wishes him well in the future," the statement said.
Michael Joyner, police spokesman, has been appointed to serve as interim director of public information.
Hired in August as Fort Wayne's director of public information, Robinson is the founder of INK, a local newspaper focusing on issues affecting the black community.
In recent months, Robinson became embroiled in a dispute with a woman he had been dating.
On Oct. 14, the woman filed a request for a protective order in Allen Superior Court, alleging Robinson attacked her at her Bayview Drive home, throwing her to the floor and tossing an iron candleholder at her head, according to court documents.
A magistrate granted her request and had scheduled a hearing for this coming Thursday, according to court documents.
Robinson filed his own request for a protective order, claiming the woman, Kimberly Wiley, threatened to "kick (his) ass" and hit him with a curtain rod, according to court documents.
A hearing on that protective order had also been scheduled for Thursday.
