“That works for me,” said Fort Wayne Police Department Deputy Chief and City Council member Marty Bender, after watching an E&B Paving truck barrel over newly laid blacktop in the 2200 block of Spy Run Avenue around 8:30 a.m. this morning.

The section of Spy Run that buckled this week was fully opened as of 10 a.m. today. That's several hours earlier than city officials expected, thanks to workers from E&B Paving beginning their work at 6 a.m. today.

The asphalt layers put down Thursday and this morning had to set before the top surface was coated.

One lane of Lafayette Street and Spy Run Avenue was open between Jefferson Boulevard and Elizabeth Street after Monday's buckling. Spy Run between Elizabeth and State Boulevard had been closed.

The contractor was hired for $26,220.
