The body of a missing Fort Wayne man was located today about 1.6 miles from where he was last seen.

The clothing and general characteristics along with some identification of a deceased male have led the Steuben County Sheriff's Office to believe they found the body of Stuart Stalcup, 48, who went missing near Snow Lake in Fremont on Oct. 11. An autopsy and further investigation to complete identification will be conducted Friday.

A Silver Alert was issued after Stalcup's disappearance about three weeks ago, and cancelled at 12:15 p.m. today, according to Indiana State Police.

Stalcup recently suffered a stroke and was an insulin dependent diabetic.

Silver Alerts are issued for adults incapable of returning to their residence without assistance due to a mental illness, dementia, or other physical or mental incapacity, or who are in danger such as a victim of a threat of violence or disappeared under dangerous circumstances.

Indiana State Police Pilot Mike Harris believed he located the body in a wooded area south of SR 120 in the area of CR 225 West. Harris notified the sheriff's department, who then recovered the body.

Prior to today, a plane was not available for search use, according to a news release.
