Brooks honored for 100 years
Brooks Construction Co. was among 97 companies awarded the Governor's Century or Half Century Business Awards in a ceremony Wednesday at the Indiana Statehouse.
The 100-year-old Fort Wayne company was founded by John F. Brooks, and its first job was paving the new Forest Park Boulevard with asphalt, according to the company's Web site.
JPMorgan Chase to pay $700M
WASHINGTON — JPMorgan Chase & Co. is paying more than $700 million to settle federal regulators' charges it made unlawful payments to friends of public officials to win municipal bond business in Jefferson County, Ala.
The Wall Street bank did not admit or deny the SEC allegations in agreeing to pay a $25 million civil fine and a $50 million payment to the county and to forfeit $647 million in termination fees it claims the county owes.
Comcast's 3Q earnings up 22%
PHILADELPHIA — Comcast Corp. reported $944 million in third-quarter earnings, a 22 percent increase, buoyed by an investment gain and a lower tax rate. The nation's largest cable TV operator also surpassed AT&T Inc. as the country's largest Internet service provider.
Kellogg to remove health claim
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Kellogg says it will pull health claims from its Rice Krispies cereal box. The food company began adding antioxidants to the cereal last year and noted on the box that they help support the immune system. But Kellogg said Wednesday it will phase the message out over the next few months, given the public attention on H1N1 flu. It will not alter the ingredients.
