An Auburn mother faces an attempted-murder charge after police say she put her infant in a trash bag and threw her in a dumpster Sunday.

The baby girl was found alive just before 1:20 p.m., according to a release generated by Sgt. Ron Galaviz of the Indiana State Police.

Alison R. Lesch, 19, is being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail pending her initial court appearance.

Auburn Police were called to a garbage dumpster in the 300 block of East 19th Street, where someone reportedly found the infant, Galaviz wrote.

Emergency crews arrived and administered medical care to the baby, which Galaviz said was only hours old. The baby was transported to and treated at a local hospital, Galaviz said.

Along with the Auburn Police Department, Indiana State Police then went to Lesch's home - near the dumpster where the baby was found - just before 11 p.m. Lesch was arrested and charged with Class A felony attempted murder, which, if convicted, could net her 20-50 years in prison, according to Indiana Code. The baby is in protective custody with the DeKalb County Division of Family and Children, Galaviz said.
