BLOOMINGTON - Indiana's basketball recruiting class just got better. How much better? We'll know in a couple of years.
The Hoosiers got an oral commitment from 6-5 Florida shooting guard Will Sheehey. He is set to sign today. He will join 6-4 guard Victor Oladipo, who committed last week.
Sheehey is rated the No. 131 player by Rivals.com, a national Internet recruiting service. He is the son of Mike Sheehey, a former St. Bonaventure player and the nephew of Tom Sheehey, who starred at Virginia in the 1980s and who was drafted by the Boston Celtics.
The sharpshooting Sheehey chose IU over Stanford, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Miami of Florida. He averaged 24.6 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season as a high school junior. Hoosier coaches began looking at Sheehey in late October. He visited the campus the weekend of Nov. 7.
IU is still in the running for Maryland guard Josh Selby, the nation's No. 4 player. He took an unofficial visit to Bloomington last weekend. He might wait until the spring to sign.
