A man was apparently shot in the face Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex east of downtown Fort Wayne, police said.
Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department went to East Central Towers and Gardens in the 900 block of East Washington Boulevard at about 2:22 p.m. in reference to a shooting investigation, police spokesman Christopher Adams said in a statement.
When officers and paramedics arrived, they found a man in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound to the face, Adams said. Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to the hospital in serious condition, Adams said.
The alleged victim told police he had been shot by a man, who then ran north, Adams said. Police found a trail of blood in a hallway in the apartment building and on the alleged victim's apartment door, according to the statement.
Investigators were still at the scene at 4:30 p.m. talking to neighbors and canvassing the area, for more information, Adams said.
The shooting remains under investigation by Fort Wayne Police and Allen County prosecutors.
