Traffic on Coliseum Boulevard was tied up for more than an hour Monday morning by a five-vehicle crash at Coliseum and Lake Avenue. Two men were injured; one was transported to the hospital in fair condition.
The incident took place around 11:26 a.m., according to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Coliseum and Lake to investigate a report of a personal-injury accident.
The release said the crash took place when a semitrailer rear-ended a white cargo van. The van and other vehicles involved were stopped for traffic at the intersection, with the impact from the semi creating a chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles.
A man was transported to a local hospital in fair condition, the release said. It also said that none of the reported injuries appeared to be critical. The driver of the semitrailer was cited for a traffic infraction.
The white cargo van reportedly contained a load of human blood from the American Red Cross. Officials with the Red Cross were immediately contacted, alternate transport was dispatched and the boxes containing the human blood were removed.
None of the blood contained in the boxes was believed to be damaged, the release said.
