A Fort Wayne Police Department vehicle was involved in a head-on crash downtown just after noon Friday.

A witness says he saw a pickup strike the police cruiser at the corner of Van Buren Street and Washington Boulevard.

Our media partner, WANE-TV, NewsChannel 15, reported that a green pickup failed to yield to the cruiser, which had its lights and sirens on.

The officer was blocking traffic so other police cruisers could go through the intersection on Washington. When the light turned green for Van Buren traffic, a green pickup went through, struck the cruiser and landed in a yard, according to WANE. The crash pushed the cruiser into a red pickup on Van Buren.
