It's time to try something new
This spring brings new wines to the Fort Wayne market. Belle Ambience is a new line to Fort Wayne with a varietal of wines that includes Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Red Blend and a Cabernet Sauvignon. Gnarly Head has recently added two new wines to its line, including a White Blend and a Malbec. As a believer that there are phenomenal wines under $20 a bottle, I can add some of these to my list.
Delicato Family Vineyards, one of the fastest-growing wine companies in the country, announces the national launch of Belle Ambiance, a new portfolio of rich, indulgent California wines crafted to enhance any moment. Belle Ambience literally stands for “beautiful place” and sits atop a rolling slope overlooking the family’s California vineyard. Belle Ambience has six varietals in its family now but of course, I have my favorites.
Belle Ambience Pinot Grigio: Surround yourself with delicate aromas of lemon blossoms, honeysuckle, tropical fruits, white peaches and jasmine flowers. Then savor the luscious flavors of white nectarines, tart lemons and sweet honeydew melon. As Pinot Grigio should be, this medium-bodied wine is crisp and bright, with a tangy and lingering finish. I say pair this wine with some great friends and a spring afternoon.
Belle Ambience Red Blend: Bask in enticing aromas of black cherries, plums, toasty oak, spices and vanilla. Then discover indulgent flavors of rich dark fruits, spice and cocoa lifted by a touch of sweetness. This full-bodied wine also delivers big tannins, balanced acidity and a lingering, juicy finish. Pair with grilled vegetables and a hearty risotto.
The Gnarly Head line has produced several great wines including my favorite, The Old Vine Zin and the awesome Authentic Red. I’ve been lucky enough to try recent additions Malbec and a white blend.
Authentic White is a gnarly blend of tasty white varietals including Riesling, Moscato, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. It is lush and juicy on the palate with aromas of honeysuckle, pear, green apple and nectarine and flavors of melon, peach and a crisp lemon zest finish. Serve with spicy Asian cuisine, soft cheeses and salads.
Gnarly Head 2012 vintage of the Malbec is grown in vineyards planted on the eastern foothills of the Andes Mountains, some of the highest vineyards in the world. These vineyards are truly gnarly, as is the fruit they produce – bold and concentrated. The 2012 vintage is loaded with dark berry fruit aromas and flavors of blueberry and blackberry jam. Try with grilled meats, pizza with red sauce and carne asada.
None of these wines disappointed me and are all in the perfect price range for people who want to drink a great wine and not pay a great deal of money. So branch out, try something new, and as always, wine on, Fort Wayne.
