Conner’s Kitchen + Bar is a great spot – and just a few blocks away from Parkview Field. The menu, though, is not peanuts and Cracker Jacks.
The restaurant aims to bring Midwest comfort food to an energetic and modern space that is nothing like what you would expect from a hotel restaurant; Conner’s is located in the Courtyard by Marriott Fort Wayne Downtown.
It is built around a large open bar located in the center of the restaurant.
And while seated in the oversized banquettes along the windows, guests can start off with an appetizer that’s elevated casual fare – the lump crab hush puppies – fried bites of sweet corn, jalapeño, pepper jack and a citrus aioli.
The double cheeseburger is not just your basic patty. The Instagram-worthy sandwich is topped with lettuce, onion, pickles, American cheese, secret sauce and thick-cut peppered bacon.
Conner’s Kitchen + Bar’s grand slam, though, is in the morning and early afternoon when you can enjoy brunch … think breakfast nachos, French toast, pancakes and chicken and waffles.
But where Executive Chef Brandon McCarthy and the kitchen staff set themselves apart is, again, elevating the Midwest classics.
McCarthy, soaks the French toast in custard before tossing it with pecans and baking it. Butter and breakfast syrup are replaced by vanilla whipped cream and bourbon maple syrup. The chicken and waffles is expertly executed and comes with bourbon maple syrup along with honey butter.
