Elysian Company adds to Warsaw’s charm
Every time I venture to Warsaw, I am greatly rewarded! My latest little trek included my first (and most definitely not my last) trip to Elysian Company, a beautiful and charming store full of cool clothing for women and men, accessories, home decor and gifts. I walked in searching for a particular bracelet and walked out with quite a few more stylish pieces. Gorgeous candles, delicate jewelry, cozy T-shirts, luscious hand creams, supple leather goods and more await you, as does the bubbly, friendly owner, Elise Wright. Customer service can make or break a business’s reputation in seconds flat, so I was overjoyed the owner was so immediately lovely and welcoming to me. OK, back to the goods. The bracelet in question is made of leather cord and hex nuts, braided into the coolest sort of fishtail design and made by another local company, Wrist Candy Design Company. I not only purchased the bracelet in a neutral color but also snapped up an intoxicating Balsam & Cedar hand cream by Illume; a plush, faux-shearling vest I’ve been wearing nonstop and a cool pair of sunnies (you can never have too many). Between the gems on Winona Lake to the cool stores and restaurants downtown, Warsaw has become quite the day-trip destination. Elysian Company is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and 2-6 p.m. Sun., 110 E. Center St. in Warsaw. For more information, visit www.elysianco.com, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (574) 267-2259.
GO RED FOR WOMEN LUNCHEON
February is Go Red month as well as heart month? How fitting. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year, more than all cancers combined. I was shocked by this information. The great news is: the majority of cardiac events can be prevented with lifestyle changes as well as education for women and men of all ages. Two of my good friends work for the American Heart Association, in Fort Wayne and Chicago, and I’ve witnessed the life-changing work this amazing organization does each year. Florence Bear, the local association’s corporate events director, is throwing this year’s Go Red for Women Luncheon this month, when we’re all thinking of beautiful red hearts anyway, at noon Feb. 8 at the Grand Wayne Center, with a wellness area opening at 10:30 a.m. The luncheon serves as a key fundraiser for the local community as well as a powerful education tool for all attendees and beyond. To get involved, email Florence.Bear@heart.org and “like” AHAIndiana on Facebook.
A couple disclaimers before I jump into this last one. First off, I know it’s February and we’re all cold. Second, I realize I just had you read about heart health. That said, here we go. Yummi Bunni is the stuff of dreams, a new dessert shop in town that serves decadent hard-pack ice cream inside a sliced doughnut named the Yummi Bun. Yep. The shop is adorable and conveniently situated next to Coney Island for a naughty one-two punch. Everything in moderation, right? Owner Makenna Click sources her high-quality ice creams from a family-owned and -operated distributor out of Wisconsin, while the doughnuts come from local legend Tom’s Donuts. If scoops of ice cream sandwiched between glazed or unglazed donuts, with or without toppings, isn’t your thing, you can order scoops of the rotating selection of ice creams in a cup. If ice cream isn’t your thing, I don’t know if we can be friends. Go grab a Yummi Bun, then take a picture in front of the selfie wall and post using the hashtag #followthebunni. Yummi Bunni is open 3-11 p.m. Mon.-Thurs., 3 p.m.-1 a.m. Fri. and noon-1 a.m. Sat., 123 W. Main St. To contact Yummi Bunni, email email@example.com or call (260) 422-6636.
