The wait…is over.

Yuengling is coming to Indiana — finally.

Yuengling fans, no more driving to the Ohio line.

No more stuffing cases upon cases in your trunk on the way back from that family vacation in Florida, no more wondering when the wait might end or when you might be able to walk into a bar and order a pint straight from a tap.

The popular brew is coming to Indiana.

Finally.

The announcement came right before Christmas — a fitting gift if you’re a lover of that lager — along with news that that beer from America’s oldest brewery will be distributed partly by local company Five Star Distributing, which echoed Yuengling’s Hoosier-state arrival in a Facebook post.

“Look for distribution to begin in the early half of next year,” the post said, referring to what is now this year.

The group “Hoosiers For Yuengling” helped spearhead the drive to bring the beer here.
Pennsylvania-based D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. began brewing beer in 1829. Long sold in the eastern part of the country, Yuengling began distributing as far west as Ohio in about 2012. That sent Fort Waynians over the state line to small towns like Hicksville to stock up.

The scope of the beer’s popularity can be seen on the Hoosiers For Yuengling’s Facebook page.

A post announcing the beer’s arrival has garnered more than 1,200 comments in 10 days and has been shared more than 5,400 times. Another post titled asking Hoosiers how far they traveled for a Yuengling has 60 comments.

“It’s much anticipated,” said Joe Doust, an owner of Cap n’ Cork, of the news. “It’s a big deal. People have waited for a number of years for this to happen.”

Doust said his stores plan to carry the beer. A spokesman for Belmont Beverage said that while everything is in the early stages as far as when the beer will be available and where — some have said bars might have first dibs before it gets sold in liquor stores — that the chain will likely carry various Yuengling flavors, as well.

Those in the know estimate the beer will be here by March or maybe April.

If you can’t wait that long, the Ohio border is just a short drive away, in case you wanted to make one more trip to fill your car or truck to the gills of a beer that you can’t get anywhere else nearby.

You know, for old time’s sake.
