We have a downtown that’s thriving.

We have hip restaurants, a stellar downtown ballpark with an arena on the way, trendy condos going up with a waiting list to get into and, oh yeah, we are still a pretty cheap city to live in.

So it should be no surprise that Fort Wayne is one of the top cities in the country those of the millennial generation are snapping up houses all over town, according to a study from SmartAsset.com.

The study ranked Fort Wayne No. 7 in the country for cities where millennials are buying homes.

While the rate of people owning homes — no matter the age — has dropped country-wide, the rate of millennials buying homes in Fort Wayne dipped only .9 percent between 2006 to 2015, according to the study.

Out of all the cities studied, though, 179 saw millennial homeowner rates decrease by more than .9 percent during the same time period.

Overall, Fort Wayne’s millennial homeowner rate is 36.8 percent, the study said.

And with the median home value at $105,900, it’s not hard to see why we’re so high, when you compare the prices of homes in what may be considered the more prized or ritzy areas of the country, like the coasts.

But here, we can enjoy some hockey, some nice weekend trips to bigger cities and no matter where you are, you can bet there’s likely a bike or running trail nearby which can take you to the country and some spacious great outdoors.

Appealing to the young…and even the old, er, older, alike.
