Floral Sculpture at The Bloomin’ Brewtique
Step inside The Bloomin’ BREWtique in Ossian, and you’ll find a multifaceted business where fresh flowers, just-baked breads and pastries, espresso drinks and locally-made gifts seamlessly blend together.
Owner Sarah Thompson, along with boyfriend Carlos Marcano, has steadily built her ever-evolving business, which started out as a handmade pottery brand, Sarahmics. As Thompson’s passions grew, she learned the local floral shop was going out of business and decided to buy it, adding her own pottery and the cafe to the mix.
The floral side of the business offers striking arrangements for parties, weddings, memorials and the everyday, as well as a popular Build-Your-Own Bouquet option, while the gift shop carries balloons, jewelry, cards, DeBrand chocolates and handmade items, with a strong emphasis on local brands and artists.
On the baking side, which operates under the name Qué Será, Sarah whips up artisan sourdough breads and pastries, sold in the Ossian store but also at many local markets, including YLNI’s Barr Street Market and the Health Food Shoppe.
Recently, Thompson added regular brunch events at Two EE’s Winery to the business. Her new food cart, designed and hand built by Marcano, offers a rotating brunch menu which includes various tartines such as steak and mushroom, prosciutto and avocado and egg and spring greens–to name a few–all atop her grilled sourdough bread. Thompson likes to play around with her baked goods, experimenting with fun ingredients like purple basil, sourced from local farm Atom Acres, which gives the bread a pretty hue.
From building the counters to pulling the espresso, Thompson and Marcano are dedicated, hardworking makers with big ideas. 106 S. Jefferson Street, Ossian, 260.622.7000
