Get ready to pull out the esoteric words because Fort Wayne’s about to go SCRABBLE crazy!
Fort Wayne has the honor of hosting the North American SCRABBLE Players Association for its North American Championship. The tournament will be held at the Grand Wayne Center Aug. 6-10 and will bring between 400-500 SCRABBLE players from the United States and Canada.
In preparation for the event, Visit Fort Wayne is planning a number of SCRABBLE-themed events and activities downtown, in a promotion dubbed the “Summer of SCRABBLE.”
The events include:
• An attempt to set a Guinness World Record for most people playing SCRABBLE simultaneously
• A contest where downtown light poles will display SCRABBLE letter tiles that spell out a secret saying people must guess.
•A SCRABBLE-themed walking tour where people find painted sidewalks of SCRABBLE art projects.
Visit Fort Wayne, The Journal Gazette Foundation and Artlink invite local artists to submit design ideas for consideration for the SCRABBLE Sidewalk Project. For this project, artists will paint a SCRABBLE-themed 6 foot by 4 foot (approximate) section of sidewalk with semi-permanent, water-soluble pain. This project is open to all artists residing in Northeast Indiana. Learn more at http://artsincubatorfw.com.
