We’re good for some cheap dates
If you're broke in Fort Wayne and looking for love, you're in luck!
Some of us are hopeless romantics always looking for love.
Unfortunately, some of us are also always looking for change in between the couch cushions just so we can get a cheap cup of coffee, so we’re not really wanting to spend a fortune on our quest for a soulmate or a good time.
Luckily, we live in Fort Wayne.
A new study from WalletHub analyzing the best and worst cities for singles ranked Fort Wayne No. 15 in the country when it comes to “Dating Economics” — namely, we’ve got cheap food, cheap drinks, cheap movies, cheap taxis and cheap…well, you get the idea.
We’re a cheap date.
It’s something many have known for years. There’s a lot to do here and it can be done — and done well — on a budget. And anyway, if you’re a guy, flashing cash right away might not exactly be the road to a girl’s heart in this day and age.
“With shifting gender norms, a man spending hundreds of dollars on a first date can actually be more of a turn off, as women may wonder what exactly he is expecting in return,” Arielle Kuperberg, assistant professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, told WalletHub. “For a first date, meeting on a weekend afternoon at a coffee shop or going out for ice cream near a park gives you a chance to get to know each other, with the option of going for a walk in the park if you like the person, and the option of leaving after an hour if you don’t.”
Plus, we’ve got sports and culture galore.
A trip to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will cost two adults $7 a piece for the day. Nosebleed seats for a Fort Wayne Komets game go for about $8 if you find the coupons for games printed every week in our daily newspapers.
There’s a free art gallery at the downtown branch of the Allen County Public Library, productions of Shakespeare happening every so often as well as local theater that won’t make your wallet strain and romantic carriage rides that will allow you and someone special to snuggle up in the slow lane.
All of those are perfect for those later dates — and perfect for keeping your money in your pocket.
“Cities will have plenty of free places that make great dates, like museums, cultural events like ‘First Fridays’ and ‘Shakespear in the park’ and gardens and parks to check out. Hiking in our local state or national parks and cooking a special dinner together at home also can make for a fun time on a budget.”
And for the ladies who want to look extra-good for that first or second date, Fort Wayne has the lowest cost beauty salons in the country, according to WalletHub. Our beauty salon rates come in at three times less than those in New York City.
So don’t let your lack of money keep you out of the dating scene.
We’ve got plenty to do…even for those who may be looking for both love with their heart and pinching for change in the couch.
