Relishing an unusual hot dog

There is nothing more American than hot dogs or peanut butter and jelly. But what happens when you combine these two all-American staples?

David Tomaszewski, co-owner of Summit City Brewerks, swears it is a savory taste combination that harkens back to childhood.

Summit City’s PB&J Hot Dog is one of the most popular items on its menu. “At first, people are confused or apprehensive, but when they actually try it, they are pleasantly surprised,” said Tomaszewski. “We have a buy-back guarantee if someone doesn’t like it, but we have never had to buy one back.”

The $5 creation begins with smearing the peanut butter and Concord grape jelly on the artisanal bun while the Angus all-beef hot dog is seared in a Panini press to make it nice and crisp. The heat from the dog helps melt the PB&J, and together it becomes an ethereal type of treat. To really top it off, Tomaszewski recommends adding a piece of bacon.
