Fine Dining for the Holidays

This year, New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday – a night when many local restaurants are normally closed — but your favorite haunts don’t want to let you down! These fine-dining spots are staying open to help you ring in the New Year (or at least kick it off in style)! Here’s information about their New Year’s Eve plans, along with details on other special seasonal dining they have planned for you and your friends and family. Many are staying open on Christmas Eve, too, to help you recover from all that shopping.

Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano will be open for lunch and dinner on Christmas Eve, but closes early at 7 pm. It is a popular spot that day for last-minute Christmas shoppers and pre-Christmas Eve Mass-goers. It is open New Year’s Eve until its usual 9 pm closing time. Catablu Grille‘s fall menu will launch in late October and run through the holidays. Seasonal flavors will be introduced to both food and drink in Catablu’s signature creative style. The restaurant is also featuring seven single-barrel bourbons exclusively selected by owner, Mike Catalogna. These bourbons are only available at Catablu, and only for as long as they last. Chappell’s Coral Grill presents seafood and steak with a contemporary twist in its bistro-style space in Covington Plaza. It has special features planned all through the holidays, based around the freshest seafood available. The long-time hometown favorite, Cork N’ Cleaver, has the perfect cozy atmosphere for holiday dining. It will be open on Christmas Eve until 9 pm and New Year’s Eve until 10 pm. The regular menu – plus a number of seasonal features – will be available all through the holidays.

Eddie Merlot’s, known for steaks and its great wine list, will be open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It will be offering holiday dining promotions running from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve. Also, as in previous years, it will be open for lunch Mondays through Fridays starting on November 27 and continuing through December 29. There will be new special offerings and weekend features all holiday season at The Gas House in its charming downtown space. It will be open, but closing early, on Christmas Eve. The renowned Joseph Decuis in lovely downtown Roanoke has lots going on for the holidays. It kicks off the holidays the day after Thanksgiving with After the Turkey, a family-style casual dinner, $50 per person; $10 per child 10 and under; 3 and under free.

On Friday, December 8, at The Farmstead Inn located on the Joseph Decuis Farm six miles from the restaurant, a holiday celebration includes a multi-course dinner and an overnight stay at the Inn ($375 per couple).

The Parisian Christmas Vineyard Lunch, 12 pm on December 16, is a perfect way to celebrate the holidays with friends. Four courses match with optional wine pairings. $50 per person with wine, $35 without.

It won’t be open Christmas Eve, but Thursday, December 21 is the Naughty or Nice holiday dinner. The menu will include a welcome cocktail and five courses featuring produce, Wagyu beef and Mangalitsa pork from the farm. When you call to make your reservation, be prepared to declare if you are (or hope to be) naughty or nice. Naughty runs $130 per person; nice, $85.

Seatings begin at 5 pm for the Decuis New Year’s Eve celebration, which includes a four-course tasting menu and a glass of bubbly for $175 per person.

Offering steak, seafood and pasta – as well as special seasonal features on weekends throughout the holiday season – Park Place on Main will be open on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Paula’s on Main, known for holiday decorating that can put even the Scroogiest Scrooge into the holiday spirit, will be open its usual hours during the holidays. While not normally open on Sundays, it will be open for New Year’s Eve. Throughout the holiday season, it will be featuring special cocktails and daily menu items with a holiday twist — think richer finishing touches and seasonal sides. Note: Orders from Paula’s seafood market are off the chart this time of year.
