JOY TO BEHOLD: For years, Sarah Manco was in what she calls “full mom mode,” with little room for her own creative ambitions. But after her children grew up and she turned 50, something changed. “I don’t know,” she said. “I just kind of woke up, and I was like, ‘I’m doing this.'” The decision opened the door to a rich creative life with her husband. Manco is an abstract expressionist, while Donny gravitates toward realism, but they share a compulsion to create and a commitment to encourage each other. “He’s my biggest fan,” she said. “We geek out together every day about what we’re making.” Now, Manco makes whatever she wants, however and wherever she wants. “No one can tell me not to get dirty,” she said. “No one can tell me anything.” instagram.com/sarahjanemanco
